This lovely little number is what the well dressed lady wore next to her skin in 1933.
I was looking at some vintage knitting patterns and realised that back then people dressed warmly in the winter. In cold weather the not so chic would wear a wooly vest but the chic would wear something far more stylish. I found hundreds of patterns for finely knitted or crocheted underwear.
I mentioned this to some friends yesterday and they were aghast at my suggestion that in order to save energy we should go back to wearing thicker clothes in winter.
I must say I was rather taken by this little number which the magazine Stitchcraft published as a crochet pattern. They advised using shell pink and black - very Thirties.
I can't crochet, but if anyone wants the pattern I can send you a PDF.
Think how much energy we'd all save if we followed the old adage and wore a little wool next to the skin in cold weather.
